The Baluchi are a nomadic people spread across Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan. Their carpet weaving tradition uses bold geometric patterns, dark grounds and wool on wool construction to produce textiles with a direct, tribal character. The Baluchi tradition is one of the most honest in the tribal carpet world: no drawn designs, no commercial specification, just pattern carried in memory.
The multicolour palette at 4 ft 3 in x 6 ft 1 in is warm and varied. Multicolour Baluchi carpets are less common than the standard dark ground pieces and give the design a visual richness while retaining the geometric directness of the tradition. Woven at 36 knots per square inch in wool on wool.
