This is a pure silk Kirman carpet, hand knotted in Kashmir, India. Kashmir is one of the most respected weaving regions in the world for high density silk carpets, and this piece is constructed entirely from silk on a silk base. Every element, the pile, the foundation, the fringe, is silk. This matters because pure silk on silk produces a weight, a drape and a luminosity that blended carpets cannot replicate.
At 1,296 knots per square inch this sits at the very top of what human hands can produce. The level of detail in the Kirman floral field is only achievable at this knot count. The deep midnight blue ground with rose and brown border is a combination that reads differently across different rooms and lighting conditions. Against warm walnut and brass it is richly layered. Against pale oak and white plaster walls it becomes the single point of drama in an otherwise restrained space. This piece is marked Sold and is shown here as a reference for the quality of collection we hold.
