Uchan is a village in the Ardabil region of north-western Iran, and its carpets are among the lesser-known but well-regarded pieces from the Iranian tribal tradition. Woven in pure wool on a wool base, they carry a geometric sensibility rooted in the same weaving culture that produced the great Caucasian and north-west Persian tribal carpets, but with a character that is distinctly their own.
This piece has a cream ground with a deep navy border, a combination that is both visually clean and remarkably easy to place in a room. The curvilinear geometric pattern adds movement without noise. At 4'4" x 5'11" it sits in the medium range, large enough to define a seating area or anchor a bedroom but scaled well for rooms where a full large carpet would feel heavy.
In your home: Works in sitting rooms, studies and master bedrooms. Pairs with navy, ivory and natural timber tones. Suits both classic and transitional interior styles.
