The Bokhara design takes its name from the city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan and is woven most widely across Afghanistan and Pakistan. The repeating gul motif, the octagonal medallion form central to Turkmen tribal weaving, has been in continuous production for centuries. This Afghan piece is woven in pure wool on wool at 240 knots per square inch, which is fine for a Bokhara and gives the repeat excellent definition.
The burgundy and maroon ground at 6 ft 8 in x 9 ft 8 in is deep and warm. At this large format the carpet anchors a full sitting room or dining area. The disciplined gul repeat in deep red tones is one of the most enduring and versatile colour combinations in the carpet world. Wool on wool construction gives exceptional durability.
In your home: Works as the main floor piece in a sitting room or dining room. The burgundy ground pairs with dark timber, cream walls and classic or colonial interiors.
