A small tiger head in hand tufted wool, cut to shape and about 30 cm across. The face is worked in gold, mustard and brown with bold black stripes, framed by an ivory outline that follows the ears and cheeks. Blue eyes and a small pink heart for a nose give it a friendly, slightly cheeky expression.
Hand tufting is a different craft from hand knotting. The wool is pushed through a base fabric by hand with a tufting tool, then the back is finished and the shaped edge is bound. It is quicker than knotting, which is why a piece like this sits at a modest price, but it is still made by hand in India rather than on a machine. Look closely and you will see the small irregularities of hand work in the stripes and outline. The few grey flecks in the pile are part of the wool yarn itself, a natural character of the yarn, not marks or wear.
At this size it is an accent rather than a floor covering. It sits well beside a bed, in a child's room or reading corner, on a bench, or hung on a wall. Unlike most of our carpets, the tiger heads are made in small numbers, so we usually hold more than one.
In your home: A playful accent for children's rooms, reading corners, entrances and studios. Works on timber floors or layered over a larger plain rug, and sits just as well on a bedside table or shelf.

Questions buyers ask
Is this rug handmade?
Yes. It is hand tufted in India, which means it is made by hand with a tufting tool rather than on a machine. It is not hand knotted, the slower technique used for our traditional Persian, Afghan and Pakistani carpets.
What is it made of?
The pile is wool and the backing is wool too. The few grey flecks you may notice are part of the wool yarn, not marks or wear.
How big is it, and where can I use it?
About 1 ft x 1 ft (30 x 30 cm). It works as a small accent beside a bed, in a child's room or reading corner, on a bench, or on a wall.
How do I clean it?
Shake it out or vacuum gently without the beater bar, and blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth. Do not machine wash it. Handmade Carpet Gallery also offers professional washing and repair.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Handmade Carpet Gallery offers free worldwide shipping on all carpets, including this one.
Can I see it in Singapore before buying?
Yes. Our showroom is at 2 Tannery Road, Singapore, and visits are by appointment. Call +65 8868 4415 to arrange a time.
Is every tiger head identical?
Each one is hand tufted, so small differences in colour and line between pieces are normal and part of the handmade character.
