Qum produces some of the finest silk carpets in Iran, working almost exclusively in pure silk at knot densities that place the craft closer to illustration than weaving. This small piece is knotted at 729 knots per square inch and is signed by its maker Emani, a mark of authorship that is uncommon in carpet production anywhere in the world.
The maroon ground gives the floral design a depth and richness that lighter grounds cannot match. At 3 ft 4 in x 4 ft 10 in this is a collector format piece, too fine for heavy foot traffic and best appreciated on a surface where it can be seen properly. The silk pile shifts from deep maroon to a warmer burgundy tone depending on the angle of light.
In your home: Works on a console under glass, framed as a wall textile or as a focal collector piece in a formal room. Suits studies, dressing rooms and formal bedrooms.
