Afghan Kilims are flat-woven textiles made using the same tribal weaving traditions as the knotted carpets of the region, but without a pile. The structure is the design. Geometric patterns are created by interlocking coloured wool wefts rather than knotted loops, producing a flat, reversible textile with a graphic clarity that pile carpets cannot achieve.
This small piece at 3 ft 2 in x 4 ft 8 in has a multicolour palette typical of Afghan flat-weave production. Kilims at this size work well as wall hangings, over-the-back-of-a-sofa textiles or as accent pieces on a chair or bench. They also layer well over larger plain floor coverings.
In your home: Works as a wall hanging, accent piece, sofa throw or layering textile. Pairs with natural timber, earthy toned walls and organic influenced interiors.
