The Bokhara design takes its name from the city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan and is woven most widely across Afghanistan and Pakistan. The repeating gul motif, the octagonal medallion form central to Turkmen tribal weaving, has been in continuous production for centuries. This Afghan piece is woven in pure wool on wool at 240 knots per square inch, which is fine for a Bokhara and gives the repeat excellent definition.
