The Isfahan design is one of the most refined in the classical Persian carpet tradition. Isfahan was the capital of Safavid Iran and the carpets produced there during the 16th and 17th centuries set a standard that weavers across the world have been working toward ever since. The design is characterised by a formal central medallion, intricate arabesques and a restrained, balanced composition that works in almost any formal interior. Pakistani weavers reproduce this tradition in wool pile with silk highlights on cotton.
The ivory and beige palette makes this a versatile piece. At 9 ft 1 in x 12 ft 3 in it is a large format carpet that will define the room it sits in. The silk highlights give the floral motifs a luminosity that shifts with the available light, adding depth to what might otherwise read as a flat design.
In your home: Suited to formal living rooms, dining rooms and reception spaces. Works with neutral walls and classic or transitional furniture. The ivory ground adds light without competing with the rest of the room.
