The Kashgai are a nomadic tribe from the Fars Province of southern Iran. Their carpets are not designed on paper. The patterns are held in memory and knotted directly onto a portable loom, which is why no two Kashgai pieces are identical. The tribal geometric vocabulary is bold and confident, developed over centuries of nomadic weaving.
The black and blue ground at 4 ft x 5 ft 1 in is unusual and striking. Most Kashgai pieces use red or rust grounds, which makes this darker palette relatively uncommon.
