Kirman in southeastern Iran has been producing carpets since the 17th century. The city is known for its soft palettes, open floral fields and curvilinear compositions that feel lighter and more approachable than the formal medallion designs of Isfahan or Kashan. This is an antique piece, which means it was produced before the shift toward commercial weaving that changed the character of most 20th century production. Antique Kirmans carry a quality of colour and wool that new production cannot replicate.
The deep peach ground at 2 ft 6 in x 4 ft 4 in is unusual and warm. Peach grounds are uncommon in the carpet world and give the piece an individuality that standard ivory or red grounds do not have. At this small format it works as a bedside piece, a room accent or a collector item displayed on a surface or wall.
In your home: Works as a bedside rug, a display piece or a layering element in a larger room. Suits warm, considered interiors with an appreciation for older objects.
