The Gombud design takes its name from a domed architectural motif found across Persian and Islamic architecture. In carpet form it creates a distinctive composition where architectural arch forms repeat across the field, giving the design a strong structural presence that differs from the flowing arabesque of the Kashan or Isfahan traditions. Pakistani weavers produce this design in pure wool on a cotton base.
The burgundy and red field of this large piece is warm and confident. At 6 ft 2 in x 9 ft it is well sized for a full living room seating group or dining table. The ivory border provides clean definition. The geometric-curvilinear pattern at 441 knots per square inch is more finely knotted than most Pakistani wool carpets at this price point.
In your home: Works in formal living rooms and dining rooms. The burgundy ground pairs well with dark timber, cream walls and classic interiors. The architectural pattern suits rooms with strong structure and considered furnishing.
