SG-6001 is a hand knotted modern rug from India, 3 ft 10 in x 5 ft (117 x 152cm), made in pure Ghazni wool on a cotton base with an ivory damask design on a deep charcoal ground. It is not just a beautiful carpet made to fit in designer homes. Hand knotted in the double knot style and finished by hand, it is also very hard wearing and strong, a rug made to be walked on every day.
The design is built on wide ivory scrolls of leafy, acanthus like vines that sweep in waves along the length of the rug. Between the waves sit mirrored paisley medallions and small arrow shaped sprigs, repeated as an all over pattern that runs right to the edges with no border. The charcoal ground carries soft tonal shifts, lighter and darker streaks through the pile, which give the dark field depth rather than a flat block of colour. A cream fringe finishes both short ends.
The strength is in the build. Pure Ghazni wool on a cotton base, hand knotted with double knots and finished by hand, gives a dense, substantial rug that is made for daily use, not only for show. The charcoal ground is forgiving of everyday foot traffic, and the bold ivory pattern reads clearly from across a room, so the rug holds its own as a statement piece even at this compact size.
In your home: At 117 x 152cm it suits Singapore condos and HDB flats as a bedside rug, a study or home office rug, an entrance or foyer piece, or an accent layered in a larger living room. The charcoal and ivory palette pairs with black, white and grey schemes, dark timber floors, and walnut or brass furniture.
