The Kashan design is one of the most enduring in the classical Persian carpet tradition. Kashan in Isfahan Province produced some of the finest Safavid court carpets and the design vocabulary that emerged from those workshops has been in continuous production for four centuries. The formal medallion, dense floral field and structured border are elements refined over generations. Pakistani weavers produce this tradition in wool pile with silk highlights on cotton.
The dark brown ground is unusual and arresting. Brown grounds are uncommon in the Kashan tradition, which more typically favours red, navy and ivory. The effect is warmer and more intimate than the standard red ground, and the beige border provides a clean transition. At 10 ft x 14 ft 4 in this is a substantial room-defining size.
In your home: Works in large formal living rooms, dining rooms and reception spaces. The dark brown ground pairs with warm timber, leather seating and rooms with earthy or neutral palettes.
