Tabriz is one of Iran's oldest and most important carpet weaving cities, located in the north-west of the country near the border with Azerbaijan. The Tabriz tradition covers an enormous range of styles, from formal medallion compositions to village florals, and this piece sits in the classical floral category. It is woven in wool on a cotton base at a knot count of 306 per square inch, which gives the design considerable detail and clarity.
The salmon and ivory ground with deep navy border is a palette that reads as warm and grounded rather than cold or formal. At 3'3" x 4'8" this is a small format piece, well suited to use as a room accent or a layering element over a larger plain floor. The relatively high knot count for a piece this size means the floral detailing carries well even in a smaller scale.
In your home: Works as an accent piece in a sitting room, a bedside rug or layered over a larger carpet. Pairs with warm neutrals, navy accents and both contemporary and classic furniture.
