Our Story

Handmade Carpet Gallery is a fifth-generation family business. What began with a single generation's passion for hand-knotted carpets has been passed down, studied, refined and built upon across five generations of the same family. That is not a marketing line. It is simply what it takes to genuinely understand this trade.

Each generation inherited more than inventory. They inherited relationships with weavers, an eye trained across decades of handling the real thing, and an instinct for quality that no amount of formal study fully replicates. The knowledge in this business has been accumulated the slow way, piece by piece, over more than a century.

What five generations means in practice

When you walk into our showroom or browse our collection online, the person you speak with has grown up around these carpets. Not in a corporate training sense. In the sense of spending childhood holidays visiting workshops in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan, of watching a grandmother run her hand across a pile to assess lanolin content, of learning to read the back of a carpet before the front.

That context changes how we source, what we select, and how we advise. We are not a retail operation that buys from a wholesaler's catalogue. We have direct relationships with the regions and in many cases the families that produce the pieces we carry. We know what we are buying, and we know what we are selling.

One of a kind, by definition

Every carpet in our collection is hand-knotted and genuinely one of a kind. No two handmade carpets are identical, even when they share a design. The dye lot, the wool clip, the weaver's hand, the tension of a particular day on the loom: all of these produce a piece that exists once and will not exist again in precisely the same form.

We think that matters. In a market where the word handmade is applied freely to tufted, printed and machine-assisted production, we are particular about what we carry and how we describe it. Every piece we sell is hand-knotted. Every piece comes with honest information about its origin, its age where relevant, its materials and its construction.

Singapore, and beyond

We have been part of Singapore's interior landscape for generations. Our clients range from homeowners furnishing a first property to collectors building a serious collection to hotels and developers specifying for large-scale projects. We understand all of these contexts because we have worked across all of them.

Our showroom is in Singapore. Our knowledge extends well beyond it.

If you would like to know more about a specific piece, discuss a custom commission, or simply understand what you are looking at before making a decision, we are here to talk. That conversation is part of what five generations of this business has always looked like.
