Shiraz is the capital of Fars province in southern Iran and the commercial hub for tribal carpets produced by the nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples of the surrounding region, including the Kashgai, Qashqai and Arab tribes. Carpets sold under the Shiraz name typically come from these surrounding villages and tribal groups, made in pure wool using natural dyes and traditional geometric patterns passed down through weaving families.
This piece has a deep maroon field with a multicolour border, a combination that is bold without being difficult to place. At 4'1" x 5', the scale is small enough to use as an accent or layering piece, but the strength of the colour means it reads as a considered statement rather than a filler. The geometric pattern has the confidence typical of tribal weaving from this region.
In your home: Works as an accent piece in a sitting room, a bedside rug or layered over a larger plain floor. Pairs with dark timber, aged leather, brass and rooms that value authenticity of material.
