The Baluchi are a nomadic people spread across Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan. Their carpet weaving tradition uses bold geometric patterns and wool on wool construction to produce textiles with genuine tribal character. Patterns are carried in memory rather than drawn.
The brown ground at 3 ft 10 in x 6 ft 11 in is warm and earthy. The geometric pattern is direct and confident, knotted at 36 knots per square inch in wool on wool. This is a practical medium format piece well suited to regular use in a family home.
